Jamie Jones is now taking bookings for his live set. Please contact The Rebel Agency for more info. March 29th is Jamie Jones' first live date exclusive for Crosstown Rebels in Miami.
What goes into your live setup?
Its me, my MPC, and electribe drum machine, and a few various other analogue keyboard synths. depending on where im playing and what mood im in.
Why go live?
A new chalenge. Ive been making a lot of music lately. Ive kept most of it for myself. Ive been playing it out a lot in my DJ sets, but I feel that this is the next step for me. Im not going to be doing a lot of live shows. Im going to pick the ones which are right.
Whats the future for dance music?
Ummm... more raves, kick drums, snares, hi hats etc.... come on.... Havent we learnt by now that dance music is made up of loops, and it goes round in cycles.
What are you looking forward to?
My life, Making more music, Perfecting my live show, imntergrating some live musicians maybe. Oh and visting Tokyo again. I need to get my ass back there.
What can't you live without?
My girlfriend, My Prophet 08 Synth... Oh and my FX light sabres.
Favourite rave destination?
Thats tough... I like spain a lot, parties like Goa in madrid, Gran Canaria's fun, oh and Ibiza of course. Otherwise Berlins always a giggle.
Favourite chill out destination?
Koh Tao, Thai Land. Proper paradise.
Essential weeknight viewing?
Curb your enthusiasm, 24, Lost, Flight of the concordes, Peep Show. Can you tell im a fan of HBO and DVD box sets.
Favourite pop star?
Michael Jackson. Always has been always will be... But If I had to pick someone who is still putting out good music, and doesnt have tendencies towards the younger generation . It would be Jay-Z.
What music sends you to sleep?
Every release on crosstown rebels except for mine... No joking :-), Kate Bush relaxes me, but I cant fall asleep listening to music.
What music picks you up?
James Murphy's last Fabric Live mix, that will always get me up and dancing.
Who’s getting you excited right now?
Hmmm.. thats another tough one...Right now Im into Ben Klock, Lawrence, Cassy, Prosumer, Sven VT. Olso records and Nick Curly are doing some nice stuff.
Top miami tips?
Cuban food at Puertos Aquas, I can eat there every day of the week.... try the ropa vieja....!! mmmmmmm.....
What are you grateful for?
Almost everything I am and have. Im grateful to be able to do what I love the most as a career. Im grateful my mother tought me respect and manners, and supported my decisions in life.
Who do you admire?
Moodyman. I listened to his only ever interview on Giles Peterson's radio 1 show. Its inspiring. He doesnt give a shit about the fame, or about doing what will push his career forward. He just makes records and if people buy them or play them, then sweet. But if not, he's just doing what he loves. Theres far too much copycat, Oh if I use this sound and this effect I will be in the beatport top 10 and get loads of gigs attitude. Music should be a form of personal expression, not a tool to get famous and do gigs. I think people are starting to forget that.
What are your vices?
Hmmmm,. next question....No I would say Im a gadget and toy obsessive., I have to have the newest and best thing there is, whether its a phone, digital camera, synthaziser, light sabres, whatever. Its what I blow all my money on. But I guess its better that spending it on usable products which I have been known to do from time to time.....:-) Oh yeah, Im also a closet sci fi geek.
What are your secrets?
I dont really have any. If I did though, I would be pretty stupid to answer this question in an interview.
What have you learned today?
I dont know about today. But a friend said to me last week, that if there's one thing his father taught him, it was always buy the best you can afford. Its something my girlfriend also preaches and its a very very good piece of advice.
